I just finished a new soft pastel piece called “ARIZONA CANYON MORNING SHADOWS (#228),” and I have to say, playing with those dramatic light and shadow contrasts on the canyon rocks was like a game of hide-and-seek with the sun. The jagged cliffs soak up the golden morning glow, but the deep crevices keep a few secrets tucked away in cool shadows. Working with soft pastels here felt like coaxing warmth and texture right out of the paper—as if the canyon itself was waking up, stretching into the day’s first light. I hope this one invites you to take a moment and let the rugged beauty and quiet drama of those sunlit rocks whisper their mysteries.
